The fire was detected around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17 at the single-family home located at 295 Old Point Road, said Milford Fire Department Battalion Chief Anthony Fabrizi.
Firefighters arrived within minutes and found active fire and a large volume of smoke inside of the structure.
“Multiple hose lines were deployed in an effort to suppress the blaze,” Fabrizi said. “Fire crews battled heat exhaustion due to extreme temperatures and humidity levels during an active thunderstorm.
The fire was brought under control in 40 minutes.
Mutual aid units from West Haven Fire department provided coverage to the City of Milford during the incident.
A representative from the Milford Red Cross arrived on scene to assist the displaced family.
One firefighter was injured while fighting the fire and was transported by paramedics to Bridgeport Hospital’s Milford campus for evaluation.
The Milford Fire Marshal’s Division was on scene to investigate but has not released a cause of the blaze.
